North Iceland

In contrast to the more touristy city of Reykjavik in the South (and home to close to 80% of the population), the city of Akureyri, North Iceland (population 18,000) has been one of Iceland’s best kept secrets. Now the secret is out: in 2015, Akureyri was voted the number one destination in Europe by Lonely Planet. Akureyri’s mild climate on the longest fjord in the country and its close proximity to the Arctic Circle make it a must-see destination.

During your week, you’ll stay in private apartments complete with geothermal jacuzzis or at a local hotel. Classes will be held each morning in our private yoga space at the only wellness center in Akureyri—complete with sauna, Jacuzzi, massage, and an exceptional view of the fjord and nearby mountains. After lunch on most days, we’ll explore the island’s incredible landscapes, venturing on breathtaking hikes, visiting frozen waterfalls, and taking a star-lit soak in the famous Myvatn Nature Baths. And of course, when conditions are best, we’ll chase the Northern Lights!

Because of the high demand for this destination and limited accommodations, and since we book inland flights from Reykjavik to Akureyri for participants, these retreats are typically organized 8-16 months in advance. Early registration is encouraged.

“The site for the Yoga studio in Ayureyri, Northern Iceland is truly magical.  A beautiful, pristine, and well-equipped space that is warm and conducive to intimate group practice with residents owners who care deeply about every participant’s experience.  I’ve traveled extensively, and never seen anything like Iceland, anywhere in the world.  There is a powerful presence here deep within the landscape that potentiates the retreat experience.  OneYogaGlobal does a consummate job of organizing every single day so that as a teacher I can focus on what I do best- teaching.”

“My trip to Iceland was more than I could have ever imagined! I have traveled extensively, but this trip with One Yoga Global was exceptional in many ways, from the knowledgeable yoga instructors, the spacious accommodations, to all the fabulous excursions. I was so excited to ride the Icelandic horses through the beautiful countryside, but nothing could have prepared me for the spectacular light show of the Aurora Borealis. Thank you for helping me experience a trip of a lifetime.”

“I love yoga and always wanted to explore Iceland, so I convinced my husband to come along too (even though he had very little yoga experience). We quickly bonded with several members of the travel group and enjoyed the balance of morning yoga and afternoon and evening adventures. Experiencing the brilliant Northern Lights while soaking in a Myvatn hot spring was the most amazing moment of the journey for me. I felt one with the earth and the universe in the most remarkable way.”

“Put your mind at ease and get ready for the trip of a lifetime. One Yoga Global masterfully tends to all of the details with great care so that a small community of like-minded adventurers can enjoy the ride. Iceland is nothing short of awe-inspiring; at each moment, when you think it cannot get any better, it does! Our amazing, knowledgeable, and downright joyful hosts led us to waterfalls, volcanoes, islands, and geothermal pools. Sprinkled throughout these adventures, we practiced yoga with a masterful teacher who created a space for us to connect to this experience in our own way. I will never stop talking about this trip to Iceland or dreaming of going back! “
