Safety
At our Lodge, guests sleep in actual treehouses, not mere treehouses propped up on stilts in the midst of trees. To achieve this ambitious vision, every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of both guests and the trees. The main lodge, treehouses, cable bridges and stairs were engineered in the United States by a structural engineer. The treehouses are supported by connections to the tree, suspension from the branches above, and multiple steel cables to the ground. Annual inspections and adjustments are made to maintain the safety of the lodge.

Tree platforms and bridges are all built with wooden railings and, in some cases, steel cables. Bridges are equipped with foot and hand cables connected by vertical cable supports. Strong webbing is installed on the side walls of the bridges to ensure your comfort and safety. The main lodge and all treehouses are enclosed with mosquito mesh and, just to help you sleep a little better, an extra layer of mosquito mesh is placed over your bed and tucked underneath your mattress.

We invite you to come to the jungle and see animal life, but on your terms. All of your movement through the lodge will be on raised wooden platforms or cable bridges to keep you safe from the wildlife on the jungle floor. Any walking in the jungle will be done with an experienced guide.

At Treehouse Lodge, we bring in fresh, purified water for drinking and cooking to ensure the health of our guests. Most of the water used at Treehouse Lodge comes from the river. We have a 4-tank water purification system that provides water for showers, toilets, sinks, and cleaning. The first tank allows the sediment to settle. The second two tanks are for purification. The final tank sits atop a high tower for pressure. Additionally, every treehouse has it’s own purified water tank for showers, toilets, and sinks.

A safe, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher and walkie talkies to contact the main lodge are all provided.

Food is stored in a refrigerator or freezer powered by the sun, backed up by a generator. Solar panels power all the electrical needs of the lodge from lighting and fans to refrigeration and communication. A generator is used only on overcast days as a back-up.

Communication
One of the real benefits of staying at at this spectacular destination is that you will not have WIFI or cell service. Reconnect with yourself, fellow travelers, and the world for a couple days by putting your communication devices away.

Medications and Vaccines
Please visit https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/peru to understand the recommendations of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention.  We recommend you schedule a visit with your doctor 4 – 6 weeks before your trip to discuss any recommended medications and vaccines. You should also discuss antimalarial medications and possibly an antibiotic in case you have any gastrointestinal problems during your trip. Some doctors will prescribe an antibiotic which will cover you for both. We also reccommed supplemental travelers medical insurance, there is a TRAVEL GUARD link on every page of this website.

Electronic Devices
Electricity in Peru and at Treehouse Lodge is 220 Volts. The plugs accept two thin rectangular prongs like those used in the US. Please check the transformers on your electronic devices to see if they can use 220 Volts. In very fine print, you will often see a description similar to 100 – 250 V. Most electronic devices like cell phone, computer, and camera chargers will work with 220 V, but please check first because you may damage your device otherwise. Some devices will require an adaptor which you should purchase before your trip. Hair dryers are particularly problematic, even with adaptors sometimes. We recommend you find a hairstyle that doesn’t require a hair dryer.

Dietary Restrictions
We endeavor to serve food that will meet the tastes and needs of all guests. When we can, we will give you a couple choices, but the menu is not À la carte. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Money
The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol. To get the current conversion ratio,  into the Google search engine”convert 1 USD to PEN for US Dollars”

We recommend that you get cash from ATMs instead of converting your currency into Nuevo Soles in Peru. ATMs will generally give you the best conversion ratio. Once you get to the lodge, you will need cash for drinks, tips, and souvenirs – all other expenses are included. When you visit a local village, you will likely have the opportunity to purchase handicrafts and souvenirs.

Gratuities
Tipping is always appreciated and should be based completely on your satisfaction. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels.

Erika Kluthe

Erika Kluthe is a full time yoga teacher where she works as a yoga therapist both publicly and privately. She holds advanced training hours in the Pranamaya Kosha (energetic sheath) or energy body, most specifically the chakras. She teaches a form of rigorous alignment-based vinyasa with an emphasis on the energy-body: opening the body into shapes that strengthen not only the gross or physical body, but also a particular chakra or area of energetic and psychological concentration within the energy body. Her style is creative, fun, soulful, yet light-hearted. She is also fond of surprises, creative forms of dharana (single-pointed focus)/meditation, and giving away colorful river rocks.
